What Exactly Is
Dental Dentures?

What types of dentures are there?

There are different types of dentures, and the choice depends on your individual needs and situation. Your dentist or clinical dental technician will explain the various options and help you find the best solution that takes your wishes and financial situation into account.

At SmileCareAlanya, we offer four main types of dentures:

  • Full dentures: Used when all teeth in a jaw are missing.
  • Partial dentures: Used when you still have some natural teeth remaining.
  • Snap-on dentures: Attached using snap-on fasteners that can be mounted on natural teeth or implants (artificial tooth roots).
  • Telescopic dentures: A more advanced form of partial denture that provides good stability.

In certain cases, a smile denture may also be relevant, often as a temporary solution, especially for missing front teeth.

Individually customized dentures

All dentures at SmileCareAlanya are made specifically for you based on a precise impression of your mouth. This ensures optimal fit and comfort, so the denture sits securely without feeling loose or uncomfortable.

Attachment of dentures

There are different ways to attach a denture:

  • Suction effect: The denture can stay in place solely due to the suction effect on the gums.
  • Clasps: Partial dentures can have clasps that click onto existing, strong teeth.
  • Snap-on fasteners: As mentioned, snap-on fasteners can be mounted on either natural teeth or implants for a more stable denture.

Your dentist or clinical dental technician will assess which type of attachment is best suited for you, focusing on preserving as many of your natural teeth as possible, as they contribute to increased comfort and stability for the denture.

Collaboration with Tandprotesehuset (The Denture House)

SmileCareAlanya collaborates with Tandprotesehuset to ensure quick and competent help with dentures. In some cases, we even share premises, which gives you easy access to specialized expertise.

What does a denture look like?

Denture teeth are made in lifelike colors and shapes so they resemble natural teeth. If an impression is taken before the natural teeth are removed, it will even be possible to create a denture that resembles your previous teeth as closely as possible. You can influence the appearance of the denture so that it looks natural, and no one needs to notice that you are wearing one.

Temporary denture (Immediate denture)

After tooth extraction, you can get a temporary denture (immediate denture) to avoid being without teeth for a period. This type of denture also protects open wounds and reduces discomfort after tooth extraction. However, it will need to be adjusted later as the gums may change shape after healing.

Maintaining your denture

Regardless of the type of denture you have; full or partial, it is important to keep it clean just like natural teeth. This is done by taking the denture out and brushing it daily. It may also be a good idea to rinse the denture often or after each meal, as food particles can get trapped underneath the denture.

You can simply use cold water and ordinary hand soap when cleaning your denture. However, it is important not to use hot water, as this can change the shape of the denture. You can also use toothpaste, but be aware not to use a toothpaste that is strongly abrasive.

b. Pulpotomy: This is the precursor to a root canal procedure. It involves opening the tooth’s pulp chamber for the sake of draining the pulp infection. To be more specific, it removed the diseased portion of the pulp and leaves alone the rest of the pulp so that there’s no need for a full-blown root canal procedure.

This endodontic treatment is used in case the patient wishes to maintain the vitality of the remaining healthy pulpal tissue. Its advantages include having living teeth preserved that’s able to tell hot from cold temperatures as well as receive nutrients from your blood. A tooth with the root removed is more likely to crumble and break.

This procedure involves removing all the pulp in the pulp chamber temporarily for the sake of pain relief. Pulpectomy is typically called for when pulpotomy isn’t an option and all of the tooth’s pulp has become infected, inflamed, and disease-ridden. After removal, the canals are medicated and cleaned.

Sometimes, dentists do pulpectomy on primary or milk teeth. In such cases, the pulp is replaced with resorbable material. This is the recommended course of action for irreversible pulpitis on redicular and coronal pulp as well as primary molars that are abscessed.
